ASC Window Space | Jennifer Talbot | Silhouette
05/06/2013 - 05/07/2013
In the movie Mary Poppins there is a scene in which the characters come upon a side walk artist, Bert, and his chalk drawings, using a bit of magic they jump from the grey London pavement “into” a lovely park scene portrayed in one of Bert’s pictures. The rectangular space and generous depth of the window space offers the chance to “jump into the surface” much as Mary Poppins and her charges did , to create a painting in a 3d surface.
Jennifer is inspired by the hybrid nature of the window space, it has the dimensions of landscape painting yet it contains real space. In response to this unique opportunity she created patterned shapes from paper and foam board and poured paint on to clear plastic. Then, unlimited by the natural restriction of a flat surface, she used the shapes to generate a multitude of compositional possibilities withvolume, space, rhythm and gravity as well as pattern and materiality.
Jennifer Talbot is Canadian. She lives and works Londonand has a BA in fine art from Central St Martins and has an MA in fine art from City and Guilds of London Art School.
