Francis C. Kelleher
An Irish artist based in London, Francis began with studies in animation and went on to pursue traditional drawing and painting, training and instructing at Charles H. Cecil Studios in Florence, Italy.
His work is focussed on the nature of seeing, and of concepts of beauty. This practice aspires towards recording the humanity of a sitter, under natural light, executed to the scale of life.
Whether through his sketchbook, plein-air landscape, or an oil portrait at life-scale, the aim is to capture an energy, an atmosphere, an expression of life. This has informed his teaching since 2013, as he continues to investigate traditional masters of the drawing and painting craft; from Titian, to Rubens and Velázquez, through to contemporary practitioners that have a focus on working from life.
In 2023 he was part of an exhibition in Colombia, Cuatro Miradas, exploring the relationship between the people of Villa de Leyva, their craft and their culture, and the mythology and landscape of the area.
