Art House Grafton Road

Jack Hughes is a British based artist (b. 1997, North Wales) working with the medium of oil paint to create an image that acts as a threshold to his own imagined painterly landscape. Jack’s ideas are a product of his interest in literature and speculative fiction. Through a use of photographic manipulation, an interest in popular culture and the unforgivable act of oil painting, the artist presents us with a place of in-between, a landscape of mystery and the imaginary. Jack's work is closely bound with the materiality of oil paint and are evidence of his mental seeking. Within the paintings figures stand contemplating an electrified panorama of invention; ruined cities and filmic scenes play themselves out. Through the recognisable elements of the figurative representation and painterly style there is a near collapse. The mythos of the artist is both encouraged and terminated.
