Amélie Crépy
My love of the physical nature of textiles, combined with my history as a digital print designer, has inspired my current practice.
My paintings are first conceived as a solid wash of pigment. It is only through the removal of colour that the artwork starts to be revealed. My contemporary work continues to evolve as I learn more about synthetic and natural, hand-made pigments and their reaction with one another and the substrate upon which they are used and applied.
The body of work demands further analysis from the viewer in order to decipher the foreground from the background. I do not have a premeditated idea of what the painting will be before I start, I rather let the colour and the repetition of patterns dictate the result.
