Charlie Chesterman (b.1996, UK) lives and works in London. He explores through his works aspects of popular culture and everyday life to satirise contemporary rituals or occurrences. The core motivation is critical and judgmental; satire is open, truthful, and direct. The narrative of the work tends to celebrate a subject while simultaneously denouncing it.
Chesterman has increasingly approached paintings as reliefs, collage can be used not only as an addition to a piece, but simultaneously as a withdrawal of what was previously underneath, a hierarchy of layering.
