ASC x hinterconti: Exchange-Channel – An International Artistic Dialogue
We are thrilled to announce ASC’s first exhibition partnership with hinterconti, Hamburg! Exchange-Channel brings together four ASC artists from London with two artists from hinterconti, marking the first stage of an exciting international exchange programme. This initiative aims to foster dialogue, collaboration, and visibility for artists from both the UK and Germany.
The exhibition’s title, Exchange-Channel, is rich with meaning. Beyond its literal sense of connecting two places, it evokes the act of narrowing, focusing, and, quite literally, channeling. In English (channeling) and German (kanalisieren), the concept speaks to concentration within complexity—a focus that emerges through exploration of glitches, gaps, and the in-between. The exhibition is about making the unknown familiar, and the act of seeing and being seen: “What we see looks back at us” (G. Didi-Huberman). Across borders, both physical and digital, the participating artists illuminate moments of translation, fracture, and revelation.
The exhibition features:
-
Darren O’Brien – Playful visual “glitches” merge Apollo moon-landing imagery with constructed, analogue-feeling compositions.
-
Ilsa Brittain (Croydon) – Images hover between surface and depth, submerged, elusive, and alluring.
-
Georgia Salmond (Bow) – Sculptural works carry residues of place, fragments of memory and material presence.
-
Luke Bacon (Brixton / Handbag Factory) – Raw, gestural, manga-infused physicality, charged with imaginative force.
-
Stefan Mildenberger (Hamburg / hinterconti) – Scans of film stills fracture narrative, turning movement into porous, static frames.
-
ANna Tautfest (Hamburg / hinterconti) – Collage-like compositions elevate the peripheral, overlooked, and marginal into ornamental abstraction.
About hinterconti: An artist-run space in Hamburg focused on experimental, interdisciplinary, and community-oriented practices, hinterconti offers an open platform for exhibitions, performances, and cultural exchange, emphasising independent and emerging voices.
