Foredawn is the first presentation of a new direction in Vladimir Logutov’s work, following Fire Run and Fireline.

Visibility has almost disappeared, and it is here that the eye begins to work more precisely. Night is still present, but it is no longer final. Darkness does not close the space; it makes perception work differently, attuning it to minimal changes, shifts of grey, the difference between black and dark grey, and the faint movement of light.

At the centre of Foredawn is a new large-scale painting and a series of works on paper. Here, the image exists at the threshold of emergence: it does not reveal itself immediately, but appears gradually. Forms slowly surface through barely perceptible tonal shifts and the very effort of looking, held between darkness, attention, and the possibility of first light.

Foredawn is an image of night in which forms remain partly hidden in darkness, yet the expectation of dawn is already present: a sense of readiness for a new beginning.

Night is still present, but it no longer holds everything.
