ORI: BETWEEN FORM AND DIVINE
A Solo Exhibition by Olu Omisore
20–26 September 2025 | Art House West, Croydon
Multidisciplinary artist and designer Olu Omisore announces the debut of his sculptural furniture collection, Ori Consoles, in a week-long solo exhibition titled “ORI: Between Form and Divine.” Taking place from 20th to 26th September 2025 at Art House West, Grafton Rd, Croydon, the exhibition opens with a private view on 20th September, 15:00–18:00.
Exhibition Overview
“ORI: Between Form and Divine” explores the spiritual and aesthetic philosophy of Ori Inu — the “inner head” in Yoruba cosmology, regarded as the essence of identity, purpose, and divine guidance.
At the heart of the exhibition are six sculptural consoles that merge Yoruba spirituality with contemporary design. Drawing inspiration from the Ori Olokun (Ife heads), each piece evokes the sacred presence of introspection, ancestral memory, and personal reflection. These works transform functional furniture into vessels of reverence—bridging the gap between traditional African craftsmanship and modern interior aesthetics.
A Dialogue Between Heritage and Design
The Ori Consoles are carved with meditative facial forms—closed eyes, quiet symmetry, and dignified presence—echoing the serenity and wisdom of ancient Yoruba sculpture. The works invite viewers into a space of spiritual stillness, offering a design experience that honours cultural heritage while enriching the contemporary home.
Through this collection, Omisore creates a timeless connection between past and present, merging sacred form with functional beauty. The exhibition is as much a celebration of African craftsmanship as it is a call to reflect on identity, belonging, and the divine within.
