John Walter
John Walter (born Dartford, 1978) is a visual artist based in London. He graduated from BFA (Hons) Fine Art at The Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art, University of Oxford (2001) and MFA Painting from The Slade School of Fine Art, UCL (2003) and was awarded a PhD from The University of Westminster (2017).
Wellcome awarded him a Large Arts Award from for CAPSID (2016) and a Small Arts Award for Alien Sex Club (2014) and his projects have been supported by Arts Council England. He was Sainsbury Scholar at The British School at Rome (2006-8), attended Skowhegan (2012) and is artist-in-residence at Kavli Institute for Nanosciences, TU Delft, The Netherlands (2020-21). He was awarded the 2016 Hayward Curatorial Open for Shonky: The Aesthetics of Awkwardness.
